What are Parts in IFS?

Parts are like little people within our consciousness with their own feelings, beliefs, and personalities, interacting with other parts as people do. Similar to feelings in the Inside-out movie!

In IFS methodology, it’s advocated that there are no bad parts, not even the anxious ones. For example, if you try to approach the anxious part with curiosity, you might discover that it hopes to save you from potential embarrassment or even social exclusion. However, if the anxiety gets extreme or becomes overwhelming, then another part will try to find balance by soothing you (for example, by using alcohol or food). As you see, all parts have positive intentions, but their methods might seem more disruptive than other ways.
